Microsoft's IllumiRoom
Speaking of the future, what does Microsoft have planned? Not just Windows or just Office, or just X-Box - O no, they have bigger plans.IllumiRoom is a "proof-of-concept" system currently in development which according to Microsoft "augments the area surrounding a television screen with projected visualizations to enhance the traditional living room entertainment experience" using a Kinect camera and a projector.
The idea here is to make the entire room in which you are using entertainment equipment more a part of that experience. What's displayed on the TV screenis intended to be displayed throughout the room in which the TV is located, perhaps giving new meaning to 3D or even beyond that to "Visual Surround".Microsoft Research is definitely putting their new Tech through intense testing and likely will attempt to make it a reality in the very near future.
With a camera and a projector, IllumiRoom is designed to probe and capture the physical attributes of a room, including the overall dimensions, furniture in place, and whatever can be projected upon. Once captured, the visual properties otherwise limited to the typical display (TV, etc.) can be projected onto that which the IlluminRoom system has captured and registered resulting in what should prove to be a game changer in Gaming, and Home Theatre in general.
